[Day 23] Cuba

The day started at 6am, and my mind chose war. Doubt and diffidence kept me emotionally distant. My body cared less, and did its job of churning miles. My awareness remained fixed on the elegance of the terrain. By 10am at the watering hole, I was over my fit. Physicality does wonders for our bizarre human brains.

Today’s travel in New Mexico continued along and through canyons and mesas. It was another gorgeous day of foot travel by cairn.

I arrived into Cuba a tad before 3pm. On my way in, walking over a bridge, I overlooked a snake. The snake struck at my shoe, luckily not making any penetration. I kicked the snake off the bridge in reaction. Hopefully, he survives. It’s been a set of nearly 111 miles over 72 hours since leaving Grants. I ate, resupplied, and decided to crash in a hotel before this longer stretch to the Colorado-New Mexico border and Chama — presuming snow conditions allow me there.

Closest shop to Los Pollos Hermanos I’ve encountered.

Signing off,
