[Day 16] Pie & Roads

I woke up, took a shower at the Toaster House, then grabbed my resupply box from the post office.

Back at the Toaster House, I finished up my chores, packed my gear, then headed over to Pie-O-Neer — one of the three cafes in town — to grab something to eat. I got myself a slice of tart almond cherry pie, and it was one of the better slices of pie I’ve had. I guess Pie Town might be deserving of its name.

Quite the selection.

After wasting a few hours playing digital-world catch up at the pie shop, I moved over to the Ohana Cafe, a short walk down the highway. I got myself a bowl of green chile stew and New Mexico poutine which consisted of tater tots, sausage gravy, queso fresca, topped with green chiles. The owners were surprised that everything was eaten.

I returned to the Toaster House, recharged my phone, and hit the road. It was an uneventful 16 miles of dirt road walking to TLC Ranch. Owners of one of the cafes in Pie Town provide hikers camping and water next to an aged homestead on the ranch.

Sun down.

I ate my dinner and crashed. There are plenty more dirt road miles ahead tomorrow.

Signing off,
