[Day 4] Return to Lordsburg

Dust particulate is buoyant in the desert air. It’s not uncommon to wake up to hardened nostrils. My headlamp illuminated desert dust sitting in the air as I got going around 5:30am this morning. I continued my way through the Pyramid Mountains.

I cruised my way through the Pyramids this morning. Again, trail was typically minimal, but it’s rather hard to get lost with all the dirt roads and unhindered views.

It was a quick day of hiking. I was in Lordsburg before 10am. I ate at the Golden Arches and resupplied at the Dollar General. I was anticipating heading to trail this afternoon, but I didn’t want to make a big water carry to a dry camp since the next water source is a ways off.

Lordsburg is a small town, much less than what it was in its hay day. That is apparent from the foreclosed and abandoned buildings all about town. Lordsburg was a hub for the Southern Pacific, a once critical stop on old Route 66, and a booming mining community. Unfortunately, those days have past for the town here. Of the locals I interacted with, the people give a friendly impression. Everyone knows everyone in Lordsburg. I ate at the Mexican joint (of the total four restaurants in town) for dinner and was decently surprised with the tacos.

Signing off,

Zeppelin
